Infrastructures Overview
TIDES is building a repository of products and practices that can support the basic needs of stressed populations. Our goal is to identify affordable, sustainable infrastructures that minimize dependence on external consumables and technical assistance and which maximize the efficiency of local efforts.
Our work currently focuses on seven infrastructures:
- Power:
Sustainable power from solar, wind, biomass, and microhydro. - Shelter:
Low-cost, durable shelters for temporary, semi-permanent, and long-term housing. - Water (coming soon)
Purified, safe water via filtration, reverse osmosis, pasteurization, and treatment. - Cooking (coming soon)
Tools that efficiently use heat sources to prepare meals in a culturally appropriate manner. - Heating, Lighting, Cooling (coming soon)
Tools that warm, cool, and light activities that occur indoors and outdoors. - Information and Communication Technology (ICT) (coming soon)
Tools for communicating and computing - Sanitation (coming soon)
Low-cost solutions for treating and using waste.
Adding to the repository: Vendors and other interested parties can enter new products to the repository by 1. sending us an email via the contact form, and 2. re-logging into the site to gain access to your new access permissions.
