CP Roberts: RELIEF 10-01 Experiments Next Week
From 10-14 November, STAR-TIDES will be hosting experiments at the Naval Postgraduate School's testing facility in the Central Coast of California. Our work will focus on several problems in humanitarian assistance, disaster response (HADR) and stability operations:
- Building a new basemap of the affected area quickly and at high resolution
- Creating an open-source infrastructure for sharing georeferenced information and data feeds with everyone in theatre.
- Integrating data submitted from mobile devices and distributing data back to the users of those devices.
- Creating tools that simplify information sharing between civilian and military organizations.
Partners to this work include:
- San Diego State University Visualization Lab
- Open Mobile Consortium
- Sahana
- RP Flight Systems
- GeoCommons
- Open Aerial Map
- National Defense University
- Naval Postgraduate School
We will also have a number of observers on site, including a representative from the Office of the Secretary at DHS and representatives from CALEMA and other California state and county emergency response organizations.
Additionally, we will link into the World Bank, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo partnership called the Random Hacks of Kindness (disaster code jam) at the NASA Ames Research Center, as well as the DHS/FEMA TechNet Meeting in Palo Alto.
For more information, please check back at this web site next week.
